Synonyms: Cancer longirostris Fabricius, 1775 WoRMS, 2017
Stenorhynchus egyptius H. Milne Edwards, 1834 WoRMS, 2017
Occurs in the northeastern Atlantic from the Faroe Islands south to Senegal (West Africa), as well as the Mediterranean, Aegean and Marmara seas. (Kobyakova and Dolgopolskaya, 1969)
In the literature, this species was noted in the Black Sea as common. However, this species was absent in the known collections from the Black Sea. He was also absent from the author's field collections from the Black Sea. Considering the significant similarity of this species with Macropodia czernjawskii, all references to its presence in the Black Sea should be considered a mistake. (Anosov, 2016)
