North Atlantic from the North Sea south to Angola, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black and Azov Seas. This species is common in the coastal zone on sandy soil up to 40-42 m. Prefers sandy soil with shells. Usually use the shell of Nassa, Cerithium and small shell of Rapana. It has been noticed that individuals in the shells of the rapana reach larger sizes (Kobyakova and Dolgopolskaya, 1969). It is found almost everywhere where there is a sand bottom.
